Dangerous trees in public areas to go

08 Feb, 2012 09:19 AM
A report by a world-renowned eucalyptus specialist has recommended the removal of a number of Port Augusta trees that pose a risk to public safety.

Port Augusta City Council commissioned eucalyptus specialist Dean Nicolle to conduct an audit on a number of established trees in high public use areas to determine their overall health.

This was in response to the publishing of the 2010 Independent Inquiry into Management of Trees on Public Land report which was conducted following a fatal incident in a metropolitan Adelaide council area.

Council’s director of infrastructure Hayden Hart said since the release of the report specialist advice on trees in public areas has been sought.

He said parks and gardens staff have been given training in the identification, pruning and removal of hazardous trees.
