A recent letter received by South Australian police may shine a new light on a former Port Augusta woman who went missing almost 20 years ago.
Major Crime investigators in Adelaide have confirmed they received information regarding missing woman Karen Williams earlier this month.
Brought up at the Umeewarra Mission in Port Augusta, Miss Williams was reported missing on Friday, August 3, 1990 after she failed to return home after attending a disco at the Coober Pedy Hotel.
The investigation was declared a major crime and was conducted by the Major Crime Investigation Branch.
Almost 20 years later information has been provided to Major Crime investigators in Adelaide on Miss Williams.
Major Crime Operations Detective Inspector Denise Gray said an anonymous source had provided police with the new information.
She said the information provided “scant” details on the case, which were now being investigated further by Major Crime investigators.
Detective Inspector Gray said investigators were urging the anonymous person to come forward to police.
“We would recommend that person come forward to police and provide any more information that they have with respect to Karen Williams.”
