Port Augusta has experienced one of its coldest periods on record this year.
The much lower than average temperatures experienced in August have continued through September and into October a spokesperson from the Bureau of Meteorology said.
August was the coldest month that it had ever been since the bureau relocated its weather station to the Port Augusta Aerodrome.
At an average of 17.7C Port Augusta residents certainly felt the chill, with September temperatures also well below average.
Winter rainfall was about 25mm below average, but again the spokesperson said that Port Augusta’s records could not be relatively compared as the location of the reading had changed from the power station site.
This year Port Augusta recorded a winter rainfall of 47mm, with the average from the past seven years 72mm.
This decrease in rainfall is across the board in the State, the spokesperson said, as were the lower than average temperatures.
This comes after one of the longest heatwaves on record last summer in the city.
