Refugees’ Vietnamese church given to parish

08 Feb, 2012 09:11 AM
Thanks to some residents in the Ellis Close immigration centre, the coloured stained-glass window is currently not the sole source of colour in the foyer of All Saints Parish church.

A group of Vietnamese residents have made a large Vietnamese style church entirely from coloured paper and cardboard and donated it to the church.

A spokesman from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship said more than 120 hours of work went into the colourful paper model.

“It was initiated by one of the Vietnamese clients at the accommodated residential housing facility known as Ellis Close,” they said.

“The client wanted to demonstrate that anything can be built out of recycled materials, which it was.”
