Port Augusta’s budding track and field athlete Daniel Glass is preparing to head to Adelaide next month for the Adelaide State Individual Championships - and he’ll be backed with a grant of $200 to do it.
Daniel, 13, has been involved with Little Athletics for seven years.
While high jump is his favourite event, he has also enjoys the 1500 metre and 800 metre track races, long jump and javelin.
This year he has qualified to compete in the shot put, high jump and javelin events at next month’s Adelaide championships.
Daniel was among 13 young regional athletes to be awarded through a joint collaboration between the South Australian Little Athletics Association and McDonalds.
The grants assist registered athletes with the travel costs associated with travelling to Adelaide to compete to help develop their budding sporting careers.
Boasting a love and natural talent for the track and field, the towering teenager said he was feeling “normal as ever” in preparation for State Individual Championships in Adelaide from March 20.
“But I’m really looking forward to it,” he added.
It’s the second time the family have travelled to Adelaide for competition.
Mum, Lisa Glass, said the grants helped in so many ways.
“When you have to travel to Adelaide the costs just add up. It will help with accommodation, fuel and costs while there.”
