A warm and humid day greeted 39 players who participated in the junior tennis competition on Saturday morning.
Instead of the round-robin format of the previous week, players were split into teams and some fantastic tennis was produced.
In the doubles, Tim Manning and Albert Seagrim teamed up to defeat Sam Daw and Amy Noll in a very close match, with the score 6 games to 5.
Clayton Brauwers and Mary Seagrim were too good for Adam Bentley and Dustyn Brauwers, beating them 6-3 and Zachary Packard and Tom Daw tried hard but in the end couldn’t get past Simon Finlay and Matt Rowbottom, losing 6-5 in another tight encounter.
The Madigan sisters, Kate and Lucy, combined to beat Hugh Sutton and Justin Bentley, with the final result 6-4.
In the singles, old rivals Tim Manning and Sam Daw went head to head in a high-quality match that ended up with Sam taking the points, 6-5.
In just his second season of competitive tennis, Gunther Toime showed he is a player to watch, defeating Thomas Beltrame 6-1.
Zach Packard also played some great tennis defeating the more experienced Simon Finlay 6-4.
Another player who is continues to improve is Josh Fin, with a well-contested victory over Monique Zacher, 6-5.
New players were also impressive with Adam Wintzloff, Jess Curnow, Dylan Herde and Marissa Kurbatfinski recording wins in their singles matches.
As of next week, players will be nominated in a set team for the rest of the season, with an appointed captain and team manager.
