Seven former Port Augusta football players were etched into history on Monday night, making their way into the city’s Hall of Fame.
West Augusta Football Club hosted the sixth instalment of the Port Augusta Football League’s Hall of Fame presentation, with a large crowd honouring the players that were inducted.
Players, coaches and family celebrated the careers of some of the greatest players the region has seen.
Spencer Gulf League president Ken McLean, along with previous inaugural inductee Dale McMullen and MC Sean Holden organised an entertaining evening which not only inducted the worthy players, but also announced the Port Augusta Football League Team of the Year.
Seven Legends of the game in Port Augusta joined the 35 already inducted since 2003 in the Hall of Fame.
From Centrals 300-gamer and current President John McAuliffe and ex-South, Bloods and Woodville (SANFL) player Mick Fuller was recognised for their contribution to their club and the sport.
From Westies 1998 Madigan Medallist Brenton Fazulla and Drew Harrison became Hall of Famers.
A man who played for the Bullies for twenty years, member of the South Augusta 1947 League Premiership team and long-time administrator Laurie McInnes was remembered as will 1964 Premiership and SGL ruckman, Ruby Anniversary team of the Era player and committee-man Donald Barry Stephenson (awarded a trip to NZ as Spencer Gulf ‘s best player in 1970).
The SGL nominated ninety-four year-old Alec Doherty, husband of 2003 Hall of Fame inductee Joyce, for the work he did with his wife and on committee (including a stint as President) whilst at Willsden FC.
