Silver medal for Carly

21 Oct, 2009 03:00 PM
Some of the Port Augusta Little Athletics members have had a very busy week, with the SAPSASA Athletics Championships at SANTOS Stadium in Adelaide on Friday, a coaching clinic on Saturday and regular weekly meet on Sunday.

Congratulations to Carly Whitaker on winning a silver medal in the 13 year old girls Long Jump at SANTOS Stadium on Friday. She is one of two medal winners from the Northern team that competed at the SAPSASA Athletics Championships.

Congratulations also to Mikayla Hudson from Port Augusta West Primary School on winning a gold medal in the 13 year old girls Shot Put.

Well done to Carly and Mikayla and to all the other members of the Northern team. Everyone participated well and many came home with some good achievements.

Parents and one big brother undertook a C grade officials and coaching course on Saturday, facilitated by state coach Bruce Smith. This involved passing a written test on the rules of track and field events and learning various techniques to help children competing in events.

Congratulations to Pauline Robinson, Sharon White, Mandy Dwyer, Joylene Noll, Scott Whitaker, Maureen Semei, Robert Ashton, Helen Cox, Steven Graetz, Bianca Ford and Jesse Pratt.

A few of our kids also took the opportunity to get some professional coaching tips from the Little Athletics state coaches which paid off on Sunday when many achieved some PBs.

Some of the biggest PB’s from Sunday included Taine Murray taking 37 seconds off his 800m time running a PB of 6:04.2; Connor Dwyer taking 5 seconds off his 200m time running a PB of 34.9; Paul Glass taking 19 seconds off his 1500m time running a PB of 6:15.8; and Billy Pratt-Hedger taking 21 seconds off his 1500m time running a PB of 6:34.4.
