Upper North U16 team named

The OneSteel Upper North Under 16 team, to be coached by Darren Bury and Mark Myers his team manager, has been selected after a trial match against the Mid North on Sunday.

It has a mixture of mainly Whyalla and Port Augusta players. The Port Augusta players are Robbie McDonald, Jake Myers, Patrick Miller, Dylan Cammarano, Nathan Bailey and Orry Kirkham, with Keenan Bury from Quorn.

The Whyalla players include captain Daniel Collison, with John Stuppos, Matthew Kirchner, Anthony Buono and Jake Gericke.

The trial game against the Mid North allowed coach Bury and manager Myers to have a look at the players under match conditions with Collison top scoring with 42 runs, Stuppos making a patient 16 runs, Buono (14) and Kirchner (12) to see the Upper North 10/138 from 42.2 overs.

Mid North bowlers bowled well in Daniel Loupos 2/16 with one wicket each to Ashley Johnson, Jack Bury, Jake Bullen, Dylan Couzner and Ben Pratt.

In reply Mid North’s Lachie Robinson (retired 24 runs), Couzner (retired 27 runs), Brendan Bart (not out 28) and Jed Hennessy (30 not out) saw Mid North at close of play 6/180 from 44 overs.

All Upper North players had a bowl with two wickets to Stuppos and a wicket each to Myers, Miller and Gericke.

The OneSteel Under 14 Team was selected some time ago with Courtland Stopp, Brad Hall, Sam Sullivan, Daniel Borlace, Luke Schubert and Max Manners from Whyalla, with Brodie McHugh and Craig Shirley from Stirling North and Harry Slee, Tom McInerney, Josh Earle and Sam Maule from Port Augusta. Coach is Shane Mardon and manager Mark Shirley.
