“Born and bred” players missing out
Another footy season is upon us, and it seems one Port Augusta "club" in particular has not learnt from mistakes of previous seasons.
Once again money has been thrown around over the off-season to recruit players from other leagues, and while this is not a new practice it has lead to the formation of a team that is basically made up of ring-ins who have no sense of the club's history.
The heavy recruiting of players leads to born and bred potential A graders missing out, and I can only imagine how a junior footballer at this football club must feel knowing they have limited opportunity of playing A grade for the team that they grew up barracking for, playing for and in many cases had family members play for.
It's ironic that in this very paper a few years ago, the club placed an ad which had a slogan along the lines of "the kids are our future".
A local football club is built on heart and soul, and this football "organisation" is lacking that severely at the moment.
