Miscommunication or thoughtlessness?
What a difference the new fence at Central Oval has made.
It is good to see as you drive by the oval in use by inter school sports meetings and the very successful NDMA Motor Show that not only informed and entertained the locals but brought many visitors to out town and of course Friday night junior soccer games.
It also gives us the chance to see the work done on the oval, so it is in the best condition possible for our sports people.
It was, however, distressing for the town’s young soccer players to see the other week their playing area being dug up just days before they played some of the grades’ preliminary finals.
The ground was ready for the Friday night games and the young players soon adapted to the different playing conditions.
On Friday, March 27, it was however a different matter, when half way through a game which would decide the team to play in the next week’s grand final, the sprinklers came on.
Not only did it disrupt this important game it took some time for the adults on the side lines to convince the young players to move of the pitch as it was grey water being used.
I don’t know if this happened was it due to a breakdown on communications between council departments or was it just thoughtlessness, but it certainly caused concern for many of us junior soccer followers
