Landslide decision in local vote

Ninety-eight per cent of residents who voted on Port Augusta’s energy future ticked the solar thermal box.

With about a third of the local population voting, 4053 people chose the low emission energy producer over a gas-fired power station as their preference.

The results were announced on Monday at Central Oval, where Repower Port Augusta members gathered to celebrate the result.

A total of 43 votes went towards the gas option.
