If a photo says 1000 words, Port Augusta photographer Erika Owens’ photos would translate into nothing but positive vibes.

Erika’s photography business ‘Magic Memories by Erika’ won the 2016 SA Regional Outback People's Choice Award on October 8, beating a field of high-quality businesses.

And Erika said she’s happy to be awarded for doing what is her passion and something she wakes up for.

”To know that my art is making people happy and giving people memories that they can cherish forever is fantastic and to be recognised for that is an incredible feeling,” she said.

“I have received so much support, not only from the people of Port Augusta but from others statewide and even across the country and it truly is an honour to have received the awards that I have.

“I think it's also really wonderful that so many companies and organisations such as Brand SA & Beyond Bank to continue recognising local businesses and helping us to build each other up...”

Erika said the outback businesses environment is ‘full of life and positiive energy’, making her feel like part of a little family.

Hosted by ABC News Journalist Khama Reid, the night was a great success, showcasing each of the top 10 finalists from the region and announcing the winners of the People’s Choice Award, Mayor’s Award and Sponsors’ Award.

Brand South Australia CEO, Karen Raffen, congratulated the winners for their success.

“The evening was a huge success and a great way to celebrate and showcase achievements from the Outback region.” she said.

Regional Development Minister Geoff Brock congratulated all the winners and finalists of this year’s Regional Awards.

“Our regions are filled with dedicated and passionate people, local community groups and businesses, and this program provides a great platform to recognise their achievements across the state.

“Regional South Australia is a vital part of the economic and social fabric of our state, contributing around $25 billion to the state’s economy.
