Three men have been reported for attempting to escape from the Port Augusta Prison on September 20 and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
And convicted serial rapist Trevor Brooks was among them.
The three men, aged 50, 30 and 28, have also been reported by police for illegal interference with a motor vehicle and damaging a second vehicle.
Both vehicles were on prison grounds when they were damaged.
The men will be summoned to appear in the Port Augusta Magistrate’s Court at a later date.
The three were alleged to have gained access to a construction zone at the Port Augusta Prison at 8.45pm on September 20.
They were alleged to hot-wired an earth-moving vehicle in an attempt to ram through the security fences.
Reports indicated they were stopped just before one of the vehicle’s air brakes had time to release.
The Department for Correctional Services report into the incident is expected to be finalised within the coming weeks.
