Division 1 – Travellers Gunners 11 d Flinders Sharks 4: Gunners had a surprisingly easy win over the highly fancied Sharks outfit. They got off to a flier, winning their first 5 frames & then not allowing the Sharks to win a set. For the winners, Anthony Grantham & Scott Mackinlay won their 3 frames, whilst Rhys Bavington & Troy Coe were successful in 2 of their 3 frames. Tim Martlew won 2 from 3 for Sharks to be their best player.
RSL Woftam 9 d South Bulldogs 6: Despite losing the 1st set, Woftam fought back to concede only 3 of the remaining 10 frames to win the match convincingly. Best players for the winners were Cameron Reid & Mark Myers, who both won their 3 frames. Andrew Reynolds also won his 3 frames for Bulldogs to be their best player, whilst Taylor Meyer produced an 8 ball potout in her only win for the night.
Flinders Dynamite 10 d PABC Shooters 5: Dynamite was untroubled in their comprehensive win over a disappointing Shooters team that was unable to win a set for the whole game. Brenton Schulz & Clay Weidenbach were the stars for the winners with 3 wins apiece & Rob Duke winning 2 from 3. John Coulter was the standout player for Shooters, winning his 3 frames.
Division 2 – Straight Outta Progress 11 d Commonwealth Assassins 4: Progress was untroubled in its match against bottom side Assassins, not conceding a set in the victory. Better players for the winners were Joseph Langford & Jake Martlew with 3 wins apiece, Zach Tucker with 2 from 2 & Jamie Wilkin with 2 from 3. Corey Merchant with 2 wins from 3 attempts was best player for the Assassins.
Sky Tavern Honeyants 8 d Central Red 7: In an exciting finish to the closest game for the night, Honeyants prevailed after scores were locked at 7 all going into the final frame. For the winners, James Buzzacott won his 3 frames & Daniel Quigley had a 2 from 2 record. For the Red team, Brandon Collins & Glyn Adams both won 2 from 2.
Travellers Rest Blue 10 d Flinders Ferals 5: This match provided the upset of the Round, with the highly credentialed Ferals going down to the 5th placed team. The Blue team did not allow Ferals to win a set & set their victory up in the 2nd set with a 4 – 1 result. For the winners, Simon McNicol showed what a quality player he is with 3 wins, Chris Pollard came off the interchange bench to win his 2 frames & Terry McKenzie won 2 of his 3 frames. Terry Blaikie was the only multiple winner for Ferals with 2 wins from his 3 frames.
This Saturday (Feb 18) sees the ultimate grudge match between Augusta and Whyalla players. Starting at 2.30pm at the Port Augusta Bowling Club. Spectators and association members are invited to attend. A barbecue lunch is available from 12.30pm.
