RAA Insurance launched the 2017 Regional Safety Grants recently.
The grants are now in their fifth year of helping regional South Australians to create safer communities.
Not for profit organisations, community groups, schools and registered charities, with a project or activity that will impact safety in their local area, are invited to apply throughout March.
RAA’s Amanda Trainor says the program has supported 71 community groups around the state since 2013 and awareness has grown as the impact of these projects spreads.
“Over $211,000 has been distributed to community projects from Streaky Bay to Naracoorte and we have already had a lot of interest in the 2017 round,” she said.
“RAA Insurance has been able to support some extremely worthy projects that have involved fire safety, mental health, road safety, security, medical equipment, children’s education and drug awareness.
“Last year we provided Chiton Rocks Surf Lifesaving Club with a new launch trailer for their Inflatable Rescue Boat and replaced riding helmets for the Yorke Peninsula Riding for the Disabled program.
“Two other important projects saw a fence erected between the Port Pirie Archery Club and the neighbouring Karting Club and the Yankalilla Netball Club repositioned a driveway to remove dangerous traffic from a pedestrian crossing.
“The Regional Safety Grants are targeted at grass roots projects - enabling those who are most impacted to develop and complete initiatives that make everyone in the local community safer.

“Our grants committee will consider any safety related project with a clear goal, plan and outcomes and we are proud to assist rural communities who may have limited avenues for funding.”
The program supports safety related projects valued from $500 to $5000 with a total grants pool of $50,000 on offer. Projects must be completed within a year.
Applications for the RAA’s Regional Safety Grants opened on Wednesday, March 1 and close at 5pm on Friday, March 31, 2017.
