LEAGUE leaders Hawks came crashing back to earth last week in Port Augusta Table Tennis Association action, suffering a six rubbers, 20 sets to three rubbers, 13 sets loss against South Bulldogs.

Without undefeated superstar John Marsh, the Hawks were never in the hunt and Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs were well led by captain Karl Chamberlain, who won twice, while Tim Clarke and Jack Smart can hold their heads high with one win each. For the losers, Andy Couzner continued his good form, clinching two wins in an attempt to carry the Hawkers to victory.

Best matches for the night included Andy Couzner defeating Tim Clarke 11-9 in the fifth set, and a doubles win for Karl Chamberlain and Jack Smart, defeating Bruce Molinuex and Wade Fielding 11-9 in the fifth set.

In the other match, Crows continued their good form with a convincing six rubbers, 23 sets to four rubbers, 13 sets win over Eagles.

For the winners, Mark Shirley and Phil Morphett had two wins each, and Tyson Darley claimed one win. Eagles, who were without the services of Grant Keane and veteran Max Duhring, looked to Jannie Basson (two wins) and Otto Basson (one win) for leadership.

Best matches for the night included Otto Basson defeating Tyson Darley 11-8 in a five-setter, while the Basson parent-son combination picked up a hard-fought doubles win over Phil Morphett and Mark Shirley, taking the final set 11-9.
