STATE Premier Jay Weatherill backed Port Augusta’s move towards building a clean energy industry while in the region last weekend.
He suggested the city’s move from a coal industry to a renewable energy future is a positive one, and backs both solar thermal and wind-powered proposals.
“I think a clean energy future is what the world needs,” Mr Weatherill said.
“Personally, I think [wind turbines] are beautiful, especially when you think about their purpose providing us with a clean-energy future.”
Mr Weatherill also suggested there’s been plenty of interest in Port Augusta-based activity from international renewable energy companies.
“SolarReserve are not the only large-scale solar producer that’s bid into that project,” Mr Weatherill said.
