AFTER months of deliberations there has been confirmation paperwork for the Town Hall is now signed by a a seller and a buyer.
Recently, Port Augusta's Local Member for Stuart Dan van Holst Pellekaan questioned members of the state government after conversations with The Transcontinental about the lack of information regarding the sale.
Mr van Holst Pellekaan managed to find out the contact had been signed and a deposit paid.
Real estate agents at McGees confirmed this and said settlement of the land would not be too far off.
Mr van Holst Pellekaan also asked if a ‘land management agreement’ was still required with the purchase and was told it is.
He said he land management agreement requires the purchaser to develop the site within two years would be part of the contract.
"It is critical that whoever buys the property actually develops it soon, otherwise nothing will have changed for Port Augusta and we'll have a derelict building in the middle of town for another decade,” he said.
“The only reason to sell the property is so that it actually gets developed for the benefit of the community.
“It can’t sit idle any longer.”
