Grain exports hit 5m tonnes

Grain exports from South Australia passed five million tonnes for the season.

Viterra spokesman Jonathan Wilson said the huge shipping task was supported by the company’s rail and road out-turn program.

Boosting the shipping figure from Inner Harbor was a Chinese-bound barley ship through Glencore Agriculture. It loaded 36,000 tonnes, including new variety Compass, bound for one of the world’s biggest maltsters.

Shipping from Eyre Peninsula topped two million tonnes.
