Horse racing is a highly anticipated event on the social calendar and the locals sure know how to throw a party for visitors.

Whether it’s trying your luck in the fashion stakes, or studying the form guide in earnest, there’s no better way to experience country hospitality than to head to the races at Hawker.

The Hawker Cup and Cabaret will take place on Saturday, May 26 with racing from 1pm.

There will be five races on throughout the day, with the premier event being the 1750m Toyota Australia Hawker Cup, which has a prize of $12,000 and a cup donated by Ra Spiers, AG Ashenden and GJ Hilder.

There is plenty more than just races on this year with South Australian rock band The Krazy Katz to put on another pulsating performance.

There will also be plenty of entertainment for the kids, according to Hawker Racing Club secretary Emma Allen.

“There will be a jumping castle, face painting, balloons in the main area and an area for painting and crafts,” she said.

Ladies and gentlemen who wish to compete in the Fashions on the Field can register on course in the morning to win a cash prize of $500.
