A wild and windy winter’s day could not stop Port Augusta from coming together on Saturday, August 4 for a day of fun and excitement at the 2018 Wharfest.
One of the biggest days on the Port Augusta social calendar, the annual event attracted about 60 stall holders – just five below last year’s record tally.
Event organiser Anthony Packard estimated about 7000 people attended the event throughout the day.
“The wind certainly affected some of the stall holders. It’s hard to battle against the wind with gazebos,” he said.
“But in general, the day was very successful. We had a large number of stall holders, and some of the food sites had their best ever days here, so they were really rapt.
“The side shows were very happy with how the day went, and the crowd hung around all day long. It all went smoothly.”
The big crowd indulged in an array of entertainment, including side shows, rides, the showbag stand, and a long list of entertainers and performers.
Some new additions were welcomed at this year’s Wharfest, including the Port Augusta Music Club and the highly successful kids show, the Amazing Drumming Monkeys.
The fireworks were a main attraction as always, with many people watching in awe as the family-friendly event drew to a close.
“The fireworks were great. There were some different fireworks that were sent off that haven’t been seen in Port Augusta before,” Mr Packard said. “Everyone appreciated the display.”
Wharfest is organised by the Apex Club of Port Augusta.
