The Lions Club of Port Augusta has thrown its support behind a team of budding dancers ahead of their quest for national glory.
Lions donated $500 to Dance Explosions, who will be heading to the Dancestar National Championships on the Gold Coast this month.
The local dance club is taking 41 dancers to Nationals to showcase 24 different routines.
Lions President Steve Fawcett was full of praise for Dance Explosions.
“What they’ve been able to achieve is really special and quite brilliant,” he said. “We’ve gone to see them and what they do is really good, and that’s what stood out for us.”
The Lions Club has donated to several youth programs this year, including the Stirling North Country Fire Service Cadets and Ignite Cheer and Dance.
Mr Fawcett said the club aims to support the region’s youth whenever possible.
“All money that we’re able to raise, every dollar of it goes back into the community,” he said. “We’ve got a clear focus on youth and this was more than worthy to contribute a donation towards.”
Dance Explosions received awards for highest scoring routines, best choreography, judges choice and most versatile dance school at recent competitions.
Coach Caitlin Jones said her team is training hard for Nationals, as they look to bring home the gold.
“No matter what the result will be at Nationals, I am so proud of all my students,” she said. “We work extremely hard, we are one big family and it’s great to see these dancers be continuously rewarded for their ongoing hard work and dedication.”
