A win in the final game of the 2018 season on Sunday, August 19 secured top position on the ladder for the Port Augusta United Football Club’s (PAUFC) under 12 side in the Whyalla Junior Soccer Association (WJSA).
With 12 wins and three draws, the U12s sensationally went undefeated throughout the entire season, setting a new record for the league.
This was not the only record the PAUFC team set, also breaking the record for most goals scored by a team in a single season.
Coach Jason Chesson said he was proud of how well the team, comprised of players from Port Augusta, Port Pirie and Roxby Downs, has played this season, bringing the premiership home to Port Augusta after finishing second last year.
Coach Chesson praised his side’s selfless efforts throughout the year, travelling to Whyalla for 10 out of the 15 fixtures.
In just their third WJSA season, the club’s U12 side has now chalked up its second league triumph, after completing the league and cup double in its inaugural 2016 season.
Now with finals looming in a few weeks after a short break, the team will be looking to improve on its narrow Grand Final defeat against Wanderers in 2017.
The local side will take on Wanderers again in the first round of finals, with a spot in the decider up for grabs.
The U12 premiership-winning team comprised of Matthew Luke, Max Holden, Jayden Dawson, Brock Vandeleur, Thomas Chesson, Chevelle Jones, Denzel Rudland, Lachie McLeod, Mitchell Bohme, Ilia Morelli, Nathaniel Grantham, Nicholas Smith, Jack Franklin, Ethan Wise and Mikey D’Arrigo.
