Sharon Hooper received statewide recognition during Adult Learners’ Week for her ongoing dedication to wellbeing and stress management.

Among a field of hundreds of nominees, Sharon was selected as one of three finalists for the Adult Educator/Mentor of the Year award at the 2018 Adult Learners' Week Ceremony on Thursday, August 30.

Although Sharon did not take home the top prize, she said it was great to be a finalist.

“It was an honour,” she said. “I’m really grateful for everyone’s support.”

Sharon has specialised in stress management, relaxation therapy, energy healing and meditation for 22 years.

After overcoming her own mental health and anxiety issues, Sharon began to study ways to help others cope in similar circumstances.

Upon completing her study, Sharon launched her own wellbeing business, Hibiscus Dreaming.

“It’s about turning negative to positive and giving clients a few tips for their own wellbeing,” Sharon said.

“Working on that with yourself can have an effect on the people around you, and I’ve had some awesome results with people who may have mental health issues, anxiety or depression.”

Sharon has worked with Uniting Country SA for the past year, hosting wellbeing and resilience workshops around the Upper Spencer Gulf. She said helping people believe in themselves is her passion.

“The empowerment you get from believing in yourself and knowing you’re better is huge,” Sharon said.
