Keen gardeners showed off their most colourful and vibrant flowers at the 2018 Port Augusta Garden Club Spring Flower Show on Saturday, September 22.

The Garden Club’s premier biennial event displayed more than 160 exhibits submitted by the 24 entrants.

Yvonne McKerlie took home the shield after scoring the highest aggregate, while Kathy Parsons won the award for Most Outstanding Exhibit.

Yvonne’s Flower Show success comes less than 12 months after being crowned Most Successful Exhibitor at the 2017 Garden Club Rose Show.

Other winners at this year’s event were Shirley Klingberg, Shirley Medwin, Alison McKerlie and Bob Rankin, as well as Lachlan Kemp in the kids category.

Entrants participated in nine categories, including cut flowers, potted plants, produce, floral art and a novelty section.

Garden Club secretary Sandra Hill was impressed by the exhibits, given the dry weather throughout the year.

“We weren’t sure how much we’d get to display because the season has been so poor,” she said.

“We got a lot more potted plants than we’d normally have and less cut flowers.

“Some of it has been really good. Some of the potted plants are amazing.”

While Ms Hill was disappointed by the turn-out at the event, she was pleased with the display that was achieved. She thanked the Garden Club committee and all entrants for their efforts.

The Garden Club hosts a Spring Flower Show every second year, with a Rose Show held on the alternate years.
