The Port Augusta Basketball Association hosted teams from across the state in its annual Port Augusta Junior Basketball Carnival over the weekend of November 3-4.
55 teams took to the court from seven regions around the state. Utilising the Central Oval Complex and the six courts within the vicinity as well as an additional primary school court, 132 games were played across the two days.
The Port Augusta Junior Basketball Carnival allows local juniors to compete against the best talent from around the region in a fun and entertaining environment. As well as local players, referees from Port Augusta and surrounds took part to develop their skills.
Port Augusta was well represented across the weekend, with all 12 sides making finals appearances. The Under 12 Girls Division 1, Under 14 Boys Division 1 and the Under 16 Boys were successful in their bid for premiership glory, taking out their respective age groups.
The U12 Boys Division 1 and the U14 Boys Division 2 were unlucky runner-ups in tough competitions.
In the U12 Girls Division 1 Grand Final, Maya Fuller of Port Augusta was awarded Best in Final, while Joshua Saunders won in the U14 Boys Division 1 Grand Final and Kane McAuliffe in U16 Boys Grand Final.
All players performed exceptionally across the weekend, with three outstanding performers taking home age group Carnival Most Valuable Player Trophies – Kahmesha Wilton in U14 Girls Division 2, Hunter Press in U14 Boys Division 1 and Mitchell Searle in U16 Boys.
The Port Augusta Basketball Junior Coordinators would like to thank all volunteers across the weekend for their endless help. Without volunteer organisations, Port Augusta basketball would cease to exist and the ability to host an event such as the Junior Basketball Carnival would be unachievable. We look forward to a bigger and better carnival in 2019.
On Saturday, December 8, Port Augusta Basketball Association will have local games for a Christmas Showdown, starting from 9am with U9s Boys and Girls until the A Men at 6pm.
Enjoy a day out with games all day and shooting competitions into the night. The downstairs bar will be open. Come kick off the festive season.
