The Port Augusta Writers’ Group has backed up the success of its first joint publication with the Whyalla Writers’ Group by launching a new book titled ‘One Small Step’.

After releasing ‘Recipes for Living’ in 2017, the group’s were keen to come together to publish a second anthology.

After working on the publication throughout the year, One Small Step was officially launched at the Port Augusta Library on Wednesday, October 7.

Port Augusta Writers’ Group President Audrey Christophersen said the book features poems, short stories and other entries, all discussing the steps we take in life.

“Most of the entries in the book were to do with taking small steps,” Audrey said.

“For example, Graham (Fry) did a poem on the early steps in the history of Port Augusta and my story was about a misguided step.”

While Recipes for Living mainly featured shorter entries, Whyalla Writers’ Group President Stephen Stanley challenged the writers to submit longer pieces for this year’s book.

One Small Step compiles the work of about 20 passionate writers from the two cities.

Audrey said members of the Writers’ Group enjoy having the chance to communicate in a creative way.

“It fulfills a need to express ourselves in words and learn the richness of the language,” she said.

One Small Step is available at the Port Augusta Library.

The Port Augusta Writers’ Group meets on the first and third Thursday of every month at the Platform Gallery.
