From cover to cover, The Flinders Favourite Cookbook is 132 pages of tried and true traditional Quorn family recipes.
Hundreds of tasty recipes fill the pages from light meals and snacks to soups, salads, dinners, sweets and even Thermomix recipes.
The book is made by Quorn Area School, but Primary School Leader Monique Carcuro said the entire community has taken on a sense of ownership for the project.
“It’s a community cookbook, not just a school cookbook,” Ms Carcuro said.
“Although a fundraiser for the school community, the initial idea was to publish a collection of fantastic recipes from our local families to inspire those interested to take their cooking to another level and in turn provide many happy times at the dinner table.”
Ms Carcuro was impressed by the support from locals who paid to advertise within the book.
Business owners weren’t disappointed with their investment.
The finished product – a high quality cookbook printed by ‘Published Authors’ – has been very well received by the community.
The cookbook idea was mentioned at the very first Parents and Friends meeting and would take a full school year to complete, arriving on the last day of Term 4.
Ms Carcuro took on the heavy lifting and did most of the computer work herself, enlisting the committee to help out with sponsorship and drumming up interest.
“It was really satisfying to get it in my hands – it was like Christmas came early,” she laughed.
After fundraising for the community throughout the year, all proceeds from the book will be fed back into Quorn Area School and will be “used for good somehow”.
Sales have been steady, but the exact number of copies sold won’t be known until school returns at the end of January.
The Flinders Favourite Cookbook is available for purchase at the Flinders Ranges Visitor Centre, The Transcontinental Hotel and the Quandong Café.
