Animated projections will light up the Yarta Purtli Gallery walls as Illuminart's Travelling Light show comes to Port Augusta for a unique mid-winter celebration

Illuminart has been roving regional South Australia in a unique odyssey to share locally made animated stories and projection art with South Australians.

The Travelling Light show comes to Port Augusta on August, 18 as part of the grand projection art tour to celebrate the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival.

The projection features colourful animations depicting South Australia's maritime heritage created by animators and artists from around South Australia.

The dramatic show is designed to enthral crowds combining creativity with history, humour and warmth.

Illuminart have previously projected onto the Yarta Purtli Gallery at its launch during Desert Fringe 2009.

The show will feature animations from across South Australia that connects to Port Augusta and the region.

"The creative stories depicting South Australia's heritage in a joyful way, are all about appreciating the beautiful and interesting place you live in," Artistic Director of Illuminart Cindi Drennan said.

"Our tour is helping to bring some warmth and happiness to people in winter time everywhere it goes.

"We are very fortunate to be able to bring this project out to Port Augusta during SALA and will be looking forward to sharing this celebration of arts and culture with everyone."

Travelling Light is the final stage of Illuminart's Port to Port project, assisted by the Australia Council for the Arts, and supported locally through Port Augusta City Council.

The show starts at 6pm in Gladstone Square with speeches, before the projection art commences at 6.30pm.

Guests are encouraged to bring chairs and rugs to enjoy the free event.
