Council suspends Community Forum time

A heated incident involving members of the public and the Port Augusta City Council have prompted administration to suspend community question time prior to council meetings.

In a statement, Council allege two members of the public became "aggressive and verbally abusive to Elected Members" during Community Forum time on September 10.

They also claim this is not the first incident of "socially unacceptable behaviour".

Elected Members and council staff have since raised personal safety concerns and a formal incident report has been lodged in council's Work Health and Safety Management System.

The suspension will remain in place until further notice while council consider other options for community engagement, in line with their Public Consultation and Engagement Policy.
