The Saltbush Motorcycle Club encourage all riders to meet at the Pastoral Lawns on Saturday December 7 for the annual Toy Run.

Once again on the first Saturday of December the streets of Port Augusta will be lined with motorcycles -and stuffed toys- as the Saltbush Motor Cycle Club's annual Toy Run returns.

Riders from Roxby Downs, Bordertown, Burra, Whyalla, Port Pirie, Quorn and Wilmington are expected to join.

Saltbush Motor Cycle Club President Stephan Laister said all proceeds will go directly to the Salvation Army in Port Augusta.

"They have the biggest network to help people around Australia. We are lucky enough to have a local salvos. and we want to help locally," he said.

"They have always been very helpful. They know what's happening on the ground far better than we ever could."

The Australian Rail Track Corporation have jumped on as major sponsors for the event for the third consecutive year.

"It's great to see they are interested in what's happening locally and getting behind us, particularly when we lost our last major sponsor in Alinta," Mr Laister said.

Over 150 riders from the region are expected to take part in the event during its 36th year.

Mr Laister said he is baffled by the Toy Run's continuing success.

The largest attendance was 185 motorcycles - a dramatic growth from the 19 bikes at the inaugural 1984 Toy Run.

"Every year when I roll up I wonder if this year will be the dud, but it never is. It always surprises me," he said.

"It's the million dollar question, why are people so generous? I think it's a part of the Christmas spirit and I think they know the work of the Salvos."

Donations amass to hundreds of toys each year and is on of the biggest community Christmas events in the city.

All motorcyclist with roadworthy bikes are encouraged to meet at Pastoral Lawns at 10am on December 7 for the event to get underway.

Donations can be made at Pastoral Lawns during the week or immediately prior to the run and will be donated to the Salvation Army around 11.30am in Homestead Park.
