Teens arrested over car theft and break ins

Two teenage boys have faced court after allegedly stealing a car and setting it alight in Port Augusta.

About 5am on Thursday, September 17, police were called to the dry salt lake next to Tassie Street after reports of a car on fire. The fire was extinguished, but the stolen car was extensively damaged.

Following an investigation a 17-year-old boy from Whyalla and a 15-year-old boy from Port Augusta were arrested and charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass, illegal use of a motor vehicle, theft, arson and traffic offences.

Both boys were refused police bail and appeared in the youth court. They have both been remanded in custody to appear in court on 29 September and 17 November.

Two girls also faced court last week after allegedly breaking into multiple homes.

On Thursday 17 September, police were called to Thelma Street after reports of two girls in the victims rear yard. Police searched the area and located the girls close by.

Following an investigation police discovered homes had been broken into on Douglas Street and Colac Avenue.

Both girls, aged 14 from Port Augusta, were arrested and charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass and theft.

They were refused police bail they appeared in court and were remanded until their next court appearance on 2 October.
